The next day, Sallie hopes to get another package so she can write a second note. Nothing comes. But . . . she does get safely across the street on the way to school. Maybe that deserves a thank you!

Review: Sallie Bee Writes a Thank you Note by Susan Verde and Courtney Sheinmel

I have been waiting for a book like Sallie Bee Writes a Thank you Note to cross my path! This new generation almost doesn’t know what a letter is because they live in the world of texts, DMs and emails. I grew up with my mom constantly chasing after me and hounding me to write all of my thank you notes. And yes ma’am I still have a stash of blank ones ready to go.

This is a cute book about a little girl who wants to send her grandma a thank you text but her mom is on the phone. So she has to turn to the ancient art of letter writing to convey her thanks. The way the author sets it up, it could almost be a built in thank you note writing unit, because Sallie goes through the different prompting questions she needs to answer to make sure her grandma understands the letter.

This is also cool because it shows the many reasons to be thankful for in a regular day. Sallie gets so excited after writing her letter to her grandma that she wants to write more thank you notes. She starts to pay attention to what others do for her that she is thankful for. It’s a great inspiration for kids to become aware of what others do for them and to recognize people with a thank you. In the book, you see how much joy she brings to others when they read he thank you notes. Young readers will see how important saying thank you can be for people.

Sallie Bee Writes a Thank you Note is definitely going to be a classic in our household. Lucky for my kids I have a stash of thank you notes and stamps to get them started.
