Book review PSA: if you want to continue your support of an author of color then make sure you post your reviews of their work on websites like Amazon, Goodreads and Barnes and Noble. When people go to purchase one of the first things they look at is the book’s rating, especially if they are unfamiliar with the title or the author. We’ve already seen where Black, Indigenous and People of Color authors are getting attacked and 1-star bombed in Goodreads. Counteract that vitriol by making your voice is heard too. People get on Amazon talking about “it was okay, I just didn’t see myself in it so I’m giving it 3 stars.” 😒🤨😡 Like I said our voices need to be heard and it needs to reaffirmed that these books matter a lot because WE see ourselves in them. It doesn’t matter if your review is short…post it!!! It doesn’t matter if you reviewed an arc or a library book, post it! (Don’t forget the FTC disclosure for arcs though) Sometimes I go to post my reviews and there are 0-5 reviews there!!! What the what? Post your reviews, support an author!!!
Throwback Thursday: Mufaro's Beautiful Daughters by John Steptoe
It’s my favorite time of the year as an English educator! The @nctegram conference has begun and @thealanorg will begin this Sunday. I’ve got my notebook, pens, schedules and of course hot cocoa ready. One of my top Gallup strengths is Learner and this is a time when I get to immerse myself in learning and reading and I just love it. The books you see pictured were graciously provided by various publishers for the ALAN Workshop. I’m looking forward to reading them and then passing them on to students and teachers in my school system. I’m hoping to find some books that would fit well in our curriculum as well.
