Also by this author: The Undead Truth of UsMirabella Owens grew up with legends of wolves that traveled to her midwestern town to protect humans from vampires. Of a werewolf that fell in love with one of the undead, unraveling a blood-soaked history. But Mira stopped believing in those fairy tales years ago. She stopped believing in a lot of things after her mom left without a trace when she was only thirteen.
As Mira begins her freshman year at Lakeland University, she’s ready to leave the past behind her. Only the past isn’t finished with her yet. Strange animal attacks are occurring around campus, reopening cold cases tied to her mother’s disappearance. And the only person who seems to know anything is Julian Santos, the boy who is hell-bent on getting Mira to leave campus for reasons she can’t begin to understand. But Mira refuses to let him keep his secrets, not when the truth is the difference between life and death.
Mira will have to accept that there is much more to the old town myths, and her growing feelings for Julian, than she ever could have anticipated. And as the Blood Moon rises, she will come to know a world that will shatter her past and change her future.
Welcome to the first tour stop on the Blood Moon by Britney S. Lewis book tour hosted by @topplingstackstours
As soon as Britney S. Lewis pitched her book as justice for Bonnie Bennett, I was like say less, I’m in. I wasn’t super into Vampire Diaries, because it came out my freshman year of college when I didn’t have a lot of access to cable. But when I didn’t catch an episode I was always appalled at Bonnie’s treatment, either she was a sacrifice or she was being given boyfriends that were the bottom of the barrel. Like who wants to date your best friend’s little brother?!
Blood Moon rectifies many a pop culture attack against young main characters of color in the supernatural storytelling world. There will be no Twilight – Jacob or Vampire Diaries – Bonnie slander here.

Top 5 reasons to read Blood Moon:
Supernatural Extravaganza: This is Kansas
Werewolves, vampires, folklore, dark and creepy woods, mysterious college acceptance, missing and mysterious mom…
The epigraphs at the beginning of each chapter tell their own story and enhance the mystery of the narrative. Mira’s mom Rena tells her tales of a war between vampires and werewolves and forbidden love between two of them.
Multiple Mysteries
Mira is surrounded by mystery. Her mother left in the middle of the night, she gets accepted to a university without applying and one of her fellow freshman keeps telling her to go take a hike faraway from the Lakeland University campus. Our girl has a lot on her plate to figure out!
Diversity
I like the diversity built into this world. Rena’s mother is of African descent and at one point she sings a Bantu lullaby in Zulu called “Abiyoyo.” If you grew up with Reading Rainbow, you might recall this as a Pete Seeger book and performance. The vampires come from both Europe and Africa. And the werewolves were created in Africa where Somalia is now. IDK how everyone ended up in the Midwest in Kansas, but it works.
Series
It did feel a bit slow for the first part of the book. But when I checked and found that is was a series, the pacing made more sense. The second half of the book definitely has doozy plot twists. So glad that this is just the first in the series!!!!!! That epilogue had me sliding to the floor.
Romance
Enemies to Lovers or is it Friends to Lovers… Julian vs Seven…Forbidden love…
I am really excited to see where this series goes!
