An Intriguing Critique of the Feminist Movement

Hood Feminism Book Cover

I’ve been making my way slowly through Mikki Kendall’s Hood Feminism: Notes From the Women That A Movement Forgot. This is partially because my kids keep pulling my bookmark out of book and I have been rereading some passages when I’ve been really tired. So I’m going to take a new approach and start taking notes so I remember my place better.

But I will say for a book as powerful as this, rereading is not a bad thing at all. I just read the first two pages of the chapter “How To Write About Black Women” and man did that give voice to both my own experiences and experiences I’ve seen other Black women endure. I’m looking forward to finishing the rest of the book.
