May Reading Goals List

Here is what I have planned for May so far. But I’m sure I will add a few more onto the list. Stay tuned for my reviews of This Book Won’t Burn and Blood at the Root at the end of this week.

  • Blood at the Root by LaDarrion Williams: One of my most anticipated titles this year! Features a young Black boy who has magical powers.
  • This Book Won’t Burn by Samira Ahmed: One of my favorite YA authors! Features a young desi Muslim girl who relocates to a small town where book banning has taken hold in the local high school.
  • The Unboxing of a Black Girl by Angela Shante: An interesting poetic memoir; it’s a nonfiction reflection on Black girlhood.
  • Herbal Remedies for Sleep by Maria Noël Groves: Nonfiction text on balancing your body’s needs for better sleep.
  • An Encyclopedia of Gardening for Colored Children by Jamaica Kincaid and Kara Walker: genre-bending, I want to read this because of these two legendary ladies – a novelist and an artist. It’s an ABC book of the plants that define our world and the often brutal history behind them.

Special thanks to the publisher who provided early review copies of the mentioned books!
