Valentine’s Day is tomorrow and spring is around the corner. Soon it will be prime wedding season. If you know someone who is looking for a florist, then you should definitely check out this who’s who of Black florists in the U.S.
First things first, this cover is powerful!!! Second, the images in this book are gorgeous!!! The photography of both the floral designs and the floral designers is exquisite!!! When I first saw this book on Netgalley I was so excited. As a gardener who struggled to find others that looked like me on social media, I understand the importance of highlighting Black florists and flower farmers. The Black farming community is a small one, but Black Flora does an excellent job of highlighting these flower growers.
The stories of these women and men are interesting and diverse. Some entered the floral industry directly and others took a more round about way. However they found themselves in amongst flowers they are embracing their new paths. What many of the floral designers and growers speak about is the joy and peace they have found in their vocation.
This is a great coffee table book and an even more excellent book to gift to a bride, restaurant owner, event planner or anyone who could benefit from the brilliant minds, bouquets and flower arrangements in this book.
