Sometimes when you look at books that you read when you were younger, you remember the experience more than the plot. That’s how I feel about The Twits by Roald Dahl. It was actually one of my favorites from elementary school. But it was my favorite because it cracked me up. I mean the kind of laughter that had my teacher looking at me and mentioning it at my parent conference.
The Twits were the grossest couple ever. I mean they were nasty. That is as much as I remember about it, that and me holding my side as I cackled in reaction to whatever antics were going on. I liked Roald Dahl’s books as a young reader. I read this one, Matilda and The Witches. I avoided The BFG and James and the Giant Peach for whatever reason.
Did books with gross, annoying characters catch your attention as a young reader?
